Porto de Mos's soft sandy beach is renowned in the Algarve and also benefits from two
international cuisine restaurants adjacent to the beach. Water sports and a nearby diving school are
available
Porto de Mos is 2 km from the
historic town of Lagos which town centre is steeped in history. The old castle walls are still standing and evidence of the historic slave trade market. Lagos offers now, as it is the third largest centre in the Algarve, all the trappings of a tourist place including cafe bars, restaurants, museums and, for those who like the night life, the bars are open till the small hours of the morning. The restaurants serve superb local dishes and international cuisine and there is a sense of honour amongst the restaurants to serve the finest dishes.
The towns new marina shows how the town has encouraged development in modern times and with the new frontage around the castle walls and underground car park it shows the town commitment to the tourist. The main parts of the town have not lost its tradition with cobbled streets lined with designer shops. There are plenty of activities to do
including dolphin watching, fishing, cycling, surfing, scuba diving, horse riding, mountain biking, walking, tennis, golf, football, water skiing, water theme parks (3), bird watching, swimming, bowling, cinemas, paragliding, helicopter rides, deep sea fishing, quad biking, tennis, wind carting, kite flying, boat rides and much much more. There are also lots of activities to do at the nearby beaches.
Lagos isn't far away from Sagres, which is known as historical because Columbus named it the end of the world. At the close by Boavista golf resort and Parque de Floresta there is a superb football school run by ex professional footballer Mark McCarrick |
